Dennis Schmal
Dennis G. Schmal
Chairman of the Board of Directors

Mr. Schmal is a former Andersen partner, with 27 years of experience guiding clients in the financial services industry. Since his retirement from G.C. Andersen in 1999, Mr. Schmal serves on the board of directors of several business entities, both public and private.



James Barrington
Business Consultant

Mr. Barrington is a CPA and retired Andersen partner whose primary focus was advising clients in the real estate industry. Since 1999, he has continued to provide business consultation services.  Mr. Barrington has served on public company boards and currently advises several corporations on strategic matters.



Gary Chase
Business Executive

Mr. Chase is the President and CEO of Jonathan Homes, California-based companies with an excess of $350 million in sales in construction and commercial real estate. He has 30 years’ experience in finance, real estate, and business development.



Steven R. Chase
Co-founder of Pacific Metrics

Mr. Steve Chase is the former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Pacific Metrics. As CTO, he led the design, implementation, and maintenance of numerous online assessment systems. He brings almost 20 years of experience as a scientific programmer in the assessment industry and was a former software manager in CTB/McGraw-Hill’s Research Department.



Stella Gibbs
Executive Vice President of Pacific Metrics

Ms. Gibbs joined Pacific Metrics in 2002 and brings more than 25 years of experience in the assessment industry. She is a former national accounts manager at CTB/McGraw-Hill and a project manager at Measured Progress (formerly Advanced Systems). Ms. Gibbs has an MBA and a Masters in Occupational Education.



John Ittelson, Ph.D.

Dr. Ittelson has over 30 years of experience in the education industry. He serves as Director of Instructional Technologies for the K–20 California Educational Technology Collaborative (K20CETC), a consortium focused on helping students prepare for college. He also teaches a graduate course on Instructional Technology and is a consultant to the CalState TEACH program for California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Dr. Ittelson serves on several boards, including the National Board of the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC), which helps to advance education through technology.



Howard C. Mitzel, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Pacific Metrics

Dr. Mitzel’s background includes over 30 years in statistics and psychometrics. He is the co-founder and CEO of Pacific Metrics. Dr. Mitzel holds a Ph.D. in Research Methodology and Quantitative Psychology from the University of Chicago and is widely known in the assessment community for his innovative work in large-scale assessment. Dr. Mitzel is the architect of the company’s psychometric software and a member of several state Technical Advisory Committees. Prior to co-founding Pacific Metrics, he served as a senior psychometrician for CTB/McGraw-Hill. While at CTB/McGraw-Hill, he co-developed, the Bookmark standard-setting procedure, which is the most widely used procedure in large-scale assessment for setting defensible standards in K−12 programs.
