PACIFIC METRICS CORPORATION APPOINTS DR. E. MATTHEW SCHULZ AS SENIOR PSYCHOMETRICIAN
Contact: Bob Guerin, Vice President Strategic Initiatives

Pacific Metrics Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. E. Matt Schulz as Senior Psychometrician.

Dr. Schulz, who has earned national recognition for his work in item response theory and domain score theory, will be designing and conducting test validity studies and leading several high profile psychometric projects at Pacific Metrics. The psychometrics team supports in-house development of testing materials, software and Pacific Metrics flagship product, customized, Web-based formative assessments.

“Pacific Metrics online assessments are extremely innovative, and the staff here are first-rate,” Schulz said. “ “I’m excited about collaborating with others in such a stimulating environment.”

Dr. Schulz joins Pacific Metrics after a distinguished 15-year career at ACT, Inc., where he served most recently as Principal Research Associate in the Department of Statistical Research. Dr. Schulz’ influence is evident on the national assessment landscape; in 2001, he received a US Department of Education grant to conduct research on using domains to describe mathematics achievement levels. In 2003 he incorporated domain theory into a Bookmark procedure called Mapmark, which was subsequently selected by the National Assessment Governing Board for use in setting achievement levels on the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) in Grade 12 Mathematics.

Mapmark is currently also being used to set NAEP Grade 12 Economics achievement levels.

Prior to his tenure at ACT, Dr. Schulz coordinated the development of criterion-referenced tests at Chicago Public Schools and served as Director of Testing Services at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Dr. Schulz’s research has been published widely, including in the Journal of Educational Measurement, Applied Psychological Measurement and contributed several book chapters. He regularly serves as a consultant to state boards of education, school districts and certification boards on topics of equating, vertical scaling and computerized testing. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Measurement and Statistics from the University of Chicago.
