Pacific Metrics Named as Finalist for the SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium IT Systems Architecture Development

MONTEREY, CALIF., July 27, 2011—Pacific Metrics Corporation, a leading provider of online assessment solutions, has been selected as a finalist for developing the SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) IT Systems Architecture. The winner, to be announced on August 1, will “develop and support the IT System Architecture for the next generation assessment systems based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).”

The IT Systems Architecture will “establish the roadmap to achieve the Consortium’s vision and will contain blueprints for systematically developing the technology necessary to support the Consortium’s assessment system.”  This system would then assist the Consortium in determining future technology needs and configurations. According to the Office of the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction, “SBAC is a national consortium of states that has been working collaboratively since December 2009 to develop a student assessment system aligned to a common core of academic content standards.” The online system will provide accurate assessment information to administrators and teachers on the progress of all students, including English language learners, students who are low- and high-performing, and students who require accommodations.

“Pacific Metrics has been a leader in educational technology for the past 10 years,” says Stella Gibbs, Executive Vice President of Pacific Metrics. “Being selected as a finalist for the Consortium’s IT systems development further confirms that a keen understanding of the high-level application architecture is critically necessary to a successful assessment system. We eagerly anticipate a continuing dialog with the Consortium.”
